2027: South-South Leaders Must Rally Behind Tompolo, Mobilise Votes for Tinubu — Amnesty Delegates Forum
By Wilson Macaulay
WARRI
The political temperature ahead of the 2027 presidential election has begun to rise in the South-South as the Amnesty Delegates Forum challenged political leaders across the region to bury their differences and rally behind High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, in the ongoing mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.
In a strongly worded appeal, the forum called on political stakeholders across the six South-South states to support the PBAT Door-to-Door Campaign Organisation, insisting that the region could no longer afford to remain politically fragmented while decisions affecting its future were being taken.
The group said its appeal was not about tribe, religion or political party, but about building a united political front capable of advancing the interests of the South-South.
According to the forum, Tompolo has emerged as a significant political force whose influence and grassroots connections could be deployed to drive an effective door-to-door mobilisation campaign across the region.
The group argued that the 2027 election presented another opportunity for South-South political leaders to demonstrate their collective strength by mobilising voters and ensuring massive support for Tinubu.
It maintained that the region needed strong political advocacy to secure greater attention to its demands, particularly in the areas of security, infrastructure, employment, political appointments and empowerment programmes for youths and women.
The forum further declared that Tompolo’s leadership of the mobilisation structure could provide a platform for coordinating grassroots political activities and galvanising support across communities in the South-South.
It therefore urged governors, lawmakers, traditional leaders, political appointees, youth leaders and other stakeholders to close ranks and support the initiative.
The group warned against allowing ethnic, religious and partisan considerations to weaken the political influence of the region.
It said: “United we stand, divided we fall,” stressing that only a united South-South political bloc could effectively negotiate and pursue the interests of its people.
The forum called for immediate grassroots mobilisation across the region ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
