Questions have been raised over the omission of retired Colonel Bello Fadile from the list of military officers honoured by President Bola Tinubu during his Democracy Day broadcast on Friday. President Tinubu announced national honours for several pro-democracy activists, journalists, politicians, and military officers who played key roles in the struggle to validate the June 12, 1993 presidential election. Among the military officers named were Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and Col Olusegun Oloruntoba, the Olugbede of Gbede Kingdom. Reacting to the announcement, concerned citizens and pro-democracy advocates, Chief Olugbemi Femi argued that Col Bello Fadile (rtd), the first military lawyer with PhD then, deserves inclusion on the same list. They noted that Fadile was Accused No.1 in the 1995 alleged coup plot under the Abacha regime, was sentenced to death and later to life imprisonment, before receiving a state pardon in 1999. The statement said: “In as much as Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) ...

By Wilson Macaulay In every generation, certain political leaders emerge whose careers transcend personal ambition and become symbols of perseverance, institutional stability, democratic maturity, and purposeful public service. Such leaders leave enduring footprints not merely through the offices they occupy but through the values they embody and the impact they make on society. The emergence of Rt. Hon. The Asaba Highway Jet N989BC Takeoff and the Imperative of Aviation Discipline in Nigeria's Airspace Management By Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq (Founding Chairman, PPK Aviation International)

The recent aviation incident involving business jet N989BC in Asaba has understandably attracted widespread public attention, not merely because an aircraft landed on a highway, but because of what happened thereafter. While many observers have focused on the dramatic images and videos circulating on social media, aviation professionals and regulators are concerned about a much deeper issue: the apparent breakdown of established operational procedures that form the foundation of modern aviation safety. At a time when Nigeria continues to make significant progress in strengthening its aviation sector and improving regulatory oversight, the circumstances surrounding the unauthorized departure of the aircraft from a public roadway raise important questions about operational discipline, regulatory compliance, airworthiness oversight, and the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to protect the integrity of our air transportation system. The aircraft involved, N989BC, is a 198...
