Tinubu's EFCC Directive Will Strengthen Electoral Credibility in Osun, Says Gen Ogidigba

The National Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Phase 3 Delegates Forum, General Ogidigba Godstime, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to facilitate the unfreezing of the Osun State Government's accounts, describing the move as a bold demonstration of democratic leadership that will enhance the credibility of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

Speaking in a statement made available to journalists, General Ogidigba said the President's intervention has reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to protecting democratic institutions and ensuring that governance is not undermined by actions capable of creating unnecessary political tension ahead of a crucial electoral exercise.

According to him, restoring the state's financial operations before the governorship election has removed doubts about the government's ability to discharge its constitutional responsibilities, including the payment of salaries, execution of public services and maintenance of peace and order.

"The directive by President Tinubu has sent a strong signal that democracy must be protected at all times. It demonstrates that while anti-corruption agencies should carry out their statutory responsibilities, governance must not be crippled in a manner that could erode public confidence in the electoral process," Ogidigba stated.

He noted that the decision would help create a level playing field for all political stakeholders and reassure the electorate that the forthcoming governorship election would take place in an atmosphere free from avoidable political and administrative crises.

General Ogidigba urged all political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns, shun inflammatory rhetoric and reject every form of electoral violence, intimidation and vote-buying.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and election observers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality and transparency to ensure that every legitimate vote counts.

The PAP Phase 3 leader further appealed to the youths of Osun State not to allow themselves to be recruited as instruments of violence by desperate politicians, stressing that the future of the state depends on peaceful democratic participation rather than political confrontation.

Ogidigba expressed confidence that the people of Osun would demonstrate political maturity by voting peacefully and respecting the outcome of a free, fair and credible election.

He concluded by commending President Tinubu for what he described as a timely intervention in defence of democracy and prayed for a peaceful, transparent and credible governorship election that would further consolidate Nigeria's democratic development.
