The leadership of the Amnesty Delegates Forum has alerted the Federal Government and security agencies to an alleged plan by some Niger Delta youths to stage a protest at the East-West Road, Mbiama axis, warning that the development could be exploited by individuals allegedly opposed to reforms in the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

In a statement signed by Gen. Godstime Ogidigba, the Forum called the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the DSS to the alleged mobilisation.

Ogidigba alleged that the protest was being sponsored by individuals who had allegedly benefited from financial arrangements within the Amnesty Programme before the administration of Chief Dennis Otuaro.

He alleged that the individuals were attempting to compel the current PAP Administrator to retain practices which he claimed had characterised the programme in the past.

Among the alleged practices cited by Ogidigba were bulk payments into single accounts, multiple accounts allegedly connected to one BVN and questionable contacts relating to supplies, training and empowerment programmes.

He said Otuaro allegedly refused to continue with such practices, leading to the reported mobilisation of youths against his administration.

Ogidigba alleged that the campaign had assumed different forms, including negative publications, blackmail, calumny and calls for the removal of the Administrator.

He urged security agencies to investigate the allegations and ensure that any protest was conducted peacefully and within the law.

The Forum also appealed to Niger Delta youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments in disputes allegedly arising from financial and administrative reforms within PAP.

Ogidigba maintained that the Amnesty Programme remained critical to sustaining peace and development in the Niger Delta and should not be destabilised by vested interests.

He called on the security agencies to take appropriate preventive measures while respecting the constitutional rights of citizens to peaceful assembly and expression.
