Osun Governorship Election: Ogidigba Commends Tinubu for Unfreezing State Accounts, Urges Peaceful Poll

The National Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Phase 3 Delegates Forum, General Ogidigba Godstime, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what he described as the President's timely and statesmanlike intervention in directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to vacate the court order that led to the freezing of the Osun State Government's accounts.

General Ogidigba said the decision has restored confidence in the democratic process and prevented what could have resulted in unnecessary administrative paralysis and political tension in the state ahead of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

In a statement made available to journalists, Ogidigba described President Tinubu's action as a demonstration of his commitment to justice, constitutional governance and the protection of democratic institutions.

According to him, allowing the accounts of a democratically elected government to remain frozen at a critical period would have negatively affected governance, delayed the payment of salaries, disrupted public services and heightened political anxiety among the people of Osun State.

He noted that the President's intervention reflects responsive leadership capable of balancing the fight against corruption with the need to ensure that innocent citizens do not suffer the consequences of legal and political disputes.

General Ogidigba urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electioneering process, stressing that the interest of Osun State must take precedence over partisan considerations.

He appealed to eligible voters to come out en masse on election day and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation, while calling on security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain professional, impartial and vigilant in ensuring a free, fair, credible and violence-free governorship election.

He further advised politicians to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric, vote-buying and other actions capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process, emphasizing that democracy can only flourish where elections reflect the genuine will of the people.

Ogidigba also called on youths in the state to resist attempts by desperate politicians to recruit them for violence, warning that lasting development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace, stability and respect for the rule of law.

While expressing optimism that the election would further strengthen Nigeria's democratic credentials, he reaffirmed his support for initiatives that promote national unity, peaceful coexistence and good governance across the country.

General Ogidigba concluded by praying for a peaceful, transparent and successful governorship election in Osun State and urged all stakeholders to accept the outcome of a credible electoral process in the interest of democracy and national development.
