Following the successful conclusion of the three-day Delta Economic Summit held from August 3 to 5, the National Chairman of the Association of Justices of the Peace ( AJP), Delta State Chapter, Olorogun Victor Okumagba, has commended the Delta State Government for convening what he described as a well-conceived and visionary economic forum, while urging the administration to ensure that the resolutions reached at the summit are translated into concrete development projects.
Reacting to the outcome of the summit, Okumagba praised Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the organisers for bringing together policymakers, investors, captains of industry, development partners and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for accelerating economic growth, industrialisation, investment promotion and sustainable development in Delta State.
While describing the summit as timely and commendable, the respected statesman expressed concern over the implementation of its resolutions, recalling that previous administrations had organised similar economic and investment summits whose recommendations failed to materialise into tangible projects.
“The Delta Economic Summit was well conceived and highly laudable.
However, my greatest concern is not the quality of the summit but the commitment to drive its resolutions to their logical conclusion. We have witnessed similar initiatives under previous governments that generated high expectations but unfortunately did not see the light of day. I sincerely hope this summit will be different,” Okumagba said.
He stressed that the true measure of the summit’s success would not be the quality of speeches delivered or the number of dignitaries in attendance, but the government’s ability to implement practical policies capable of attracting investments, stimulating industrial growth, creating employment opportunities and improving the welfare of Deltans.
Okumagba noted that if faithfully implemented, the summit’s recommendations could unlock the state’s enormous potential in agriculture, manufacturing, oil and gas, tourism, infrastructure, technology and the blue economy, thereby positioning Delta State as one of Nigeria’s foremost investment destinations.
He further urged the Delta State Government to establish a robust implementation and monitoring framework that would ensure the timely execution of projects and policy initiatives arising from the summit, saying this would inspire public confidence and reassure investors of the government’s commitment to sustainable economic transformation.
The AJP Chairman also called on the private sector, development partners and financial institutions to collaborate closely with the government in translating the summit’s resolutions into bankable investments that would deliver measurable economic benefits across the state.
He appealed to the people of Delta State to continue to support the government’s development agenda by maintaining peace, unity and security, emphasising that no economy can thrive in an atmosphere of instability.
“I wish Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Delta State Government success as they begin the implementation of the resolutions reached at the summit. I also urge all Deltans to remain peaceful and law-abiding because it is only in a peaceful environment that meaningful development, investment and prosperity can flourish,” Okumagba stated.
He expressed optimism that with strong political will, transparency, accountability and sustained collaboration between the government and the private sector, the just-concluded Delta Economic Summit would become a historic turning point that delivers lasting economic prosperity rather than joining the list of well-intentioned initiatives that were never fully implemented.
