WARRI — The political equation in Warri Federal Constituency may be taking a dramatic turn ahead of the 2027 general elections, as prominent Urhobo, Itsekiri and Ijaw stakeholders have thrown their weight behind the candidature of Comrade Sheriff Mulade for the House of Representatives.

The declaration, which cuts across the three major ethnic blocs in the constituency, is being seen by political observers as a significant development in the race, coming at a time when stakeholders are increasingly demanding a new direction in representation.

The three representatives — Frank Egunje, speaking for the Itsekiri; Chief Okiemute Itemure, representing the Urhobo; and Ambassador Adam Mano, representing the Ijaw — separately declared that their people were prepared to support Mulade's aspiration.

They described the former peace advocate and environmental rights campaigner as a candidate capable of bridging ethnic divides and providing a strong voice for the constituency at the National Assembly.

Speaking in a strong endorsement of Mulade, Egunje, an Itsekiri representative, said the time had come for the people of Warri Federal Constituency to put aside divisive politics and rally around a candidate with the capacity to unite the constituency.

He said the constituency could no longer afford representation driven by narrow interests, insisting that the next representative must be somebody capable of carrying the aspirations of all communities to Abuja.

According to him, Mulade’s record of advocacy, peace-building and community engagement had given him an advantage in the race.

“We are not looking for somebody who will represent only one ethnic group. We want somebody who will represent everybody — Urhobo, Itsekiri and Ijaw. That is why Sheriff Mulade has our support,” Egunje declared.

For Chief Okiemute Itemure, the Urhobo representative, the emerging alliance represents a new political consciousness among the people of the constituency.

Itemure said the Urhobo were ready to work with their Itsekiri and Ijaw brothers and sisters to produce a representative who would put the collective interest of the constituency above personal or sectional considerations.

He described Mulade as a candidate with the temperament and experience required to build bridges among the diverse communities of the constituency.

“Warri Federal Constituency needs a representative who can unite the people, attract development and speak with courage when the interest of the constituency is at stake. We believe Mulade has these qualities,” he said.

Also throwing his weight behind the aspiration, Ambassador Adam Mabo, who spoke for the Ijaw, said the Ijaw people were prepared to join hands with other ethnic groups to give Mulade the necessary support.

Mabo stressed that the constituency's enormous human, economic and natural resources demanded purposeful and visionary representation.

He said the emerging consensus around Mulade was not about ethnicity, but about the need for effective representation and a new political direction.

“This is bigger than ethnic politics. It is about the future of our people. Urhobo, Itsekiri and Ijaw must come together and support a representative who understands our problems and is ready to fight for our common interests,” Mabo stated.

The three stakeholders urged political leaders and grassroots organisations across the constituency to close ranks, warning against attempts to exploit ethnic differences for political advantage.

They maintained that unity among the three major ethnic groups remained critical to securing federal presence, infrastructure, employment opportunities and empowerment programmes for the constituency.
