The centenary remembrance, held on July 27, 2026, celebrated the extraordinary life of a man whose contributions to education, professional accountancy, public administration, community development, and Christian service left an indelible imprint on Rivers State, the Niger Delta, and Nigeria.
Those who reflected on his life described Pa Igali as a rare personality whose commitment to excellence, integrity, discipline, and selfless service distinguished him throughout his lifetime.
Tributes highlighted his pioneering role as one of the foremost educationists in the old Yenagoa Province during the 1950s, where he served as a respected head teacher committed to nurturing future leaders through quality education and moral instruction.
He was also remembered as an early Ijaw nationalist and advocate who actively participated in campaigns in the United Kingdom during the early 1960s for the creation of Rivers State, demonstrating remarkable courage and political foresight at a defining period in Nigeria's constitutional evolution.
Professionally, Pa Igali achieved several historic milestones. He became one of the pioneer Chartered Accountants from the old Rivers State after qualifying through the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) during the mid-1960s. His outstanding professional competence later earned him the prestigious Fellowship of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), making him one of the earliest Fellows from the region.
His distinguished public service career included serving as the pioneer Chief Accountant of the Rivers State Transport Corporation during the 1970s, where he was credited with helping establish sound financial management systems. In 1972, he became the pioneer Bursar of the then College of Science and Technology, now Rivers State University, laying a strong financial foundation for one of Nigeria's leading higher institutions.
