PTI Issues Urgent Public Disclaimer As Cybercriminals Clone Identity of PTI Boss

The Management of the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun, has issued an urgent public disclaimer warning Nigerians against the activities of cybercriminals who have allegedly cloned the identity of the Principal and Chief Executive of the Institute, Samuel Onoji, on various social media platforms.

In an official statement released on May 24, 2026, the management disclosed that fraudsters have created fake Facebook, Instagram, X formerly known as Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts using the name, photographs, and official designation of Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji in an attempt to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

The Institute described the development as criminal, fraudulent, and highly disturbing, stressing that the fake social media accounts are in no way affiliated with the office of the Principal/Chief Executive or the official communication channels of PTI.

According to the statement, the impostors are allegedly using the fake accounts to solicit money from unsuspecting victims under the guise of facilitating admissions, employment opportunities, contract awards, and other unofficial transactions falsely linked to the Institute. The management further alleged that the cybercriminals have been requesting sensitive personal and banking information from students, contractors, staff members, and stakeholders while spreading misleading information falsely attributed to the PTI leadership.

PTI categorically clarified that Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji does not operate any personal Facebook account for official Institute business and has not authorized any individual, group, or agent to represent him through unofficial social media channels. The management emphasized that the PTI boss does not request money, gifts, or confidential information from anyone through social media platforms.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity, the Institute urged members of the public to rely strictly on PTI’s verified communication platforms for authentic information relating to the activities and operations of the institution. These include the official PTI website, verified social media handles, and approved institutional email addresses.

The management further advised Nigerians to disregard and promptly report suspicious friend requests, online messages, or posts from accounts claiming to represent Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji or the leadership of PTI. Members of the public were strongly warned against sending money or divulging sensitive personal information to anyone posing as representatives of the Institute on social media.

PTI also appealed to media organizations, stakeholders, students, contractors, and the general public to assist in amplifying the warning in order to prevent more innocent people from becoming victims of cyber-enabled fraud and identity theft.

The Institute noted that the growing menace of online impersonation and cyber fraud has become a serious concern in the digital age, making vigilance, public awareness, and verification of information increasingly important.

While expressing regret over any embarrassment or inconvenience caused by the activities of the fraudsters, the management reassured the public of its determination to protect the integrity and reputation of the institution as well as safeguard stakeholders from criminal exploitation.

For clarification, verification, and authentic information relating to PTI, members of the public have been advised to contact the Public Affairs Department of the Institute through its official communication channels.

Further information is available through the PTI Official Website and the Institute’s verified communication platforms.
