PTI Disowns Fake Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn Accounts Using Name of Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji

The Management of the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun, has publicly disowned several fake social media accounts operating on Facebook, Instagram, X formerly known as Twitter, and LinkedIn using the identity of the Principal and Chief Executive of the Institute, Samuel Onoji.

In a public disclaimer issued on May 24, 2026, the Institute alerted Nigerians, students, contractors, media practitioners, stakeholders, and members of the public to the activities of cybercriminals who allegedly created the fraudulent accounts to impersonate Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji and defraud unsuspecting individuals.

According to the statement, the fake accounts were created using the official name, photographs, and designation of the PTI Principal/Chief Executive in what the management described as a calculated and criminal attempt to deceive members of the public.

The Institute stated that the fraudulent accounts have allegedly been used to solicit money from unsuspecting victims under false claims relating to admissions, employment opportunities, contract awards, and other unofficial dealings purportedly connected to PTI. The impostors were also accused of requesting confidential personal and financial information from members of the public while circulating misleading messages falsely attributed to the office of the Principal/Chief Executive.

PTI management emphasized that the fake accounts are not affiliated in any way with Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji or the official communication structures of the institution. The management further clarified that the PTI boss does not conduct official business through personal Facebook accounts or unauthorized social media platforms.

The statement categorically noted that Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji has not authorized any individual, group, or representative to act on his behalf through unofficial online channels. The Institute also stressed that the Principal/Chief Executive does not request money, gifts, banking details, or confidential information from staff, students, contractors, or members of the public through social media.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and institutional integrity, PTI urged the public to rely solely on the Institute’s verified communication channels for authentic information regarding its operations and activities. The management identified the official PTI website, approved social media handles, and institutional email addresses as the only recognized communication platforms of the Institute.

The management advised members of the public to immediately disregard and report suspicious friend requests, online messages, or posts from any account claiming to represent Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji outside the Institute’s verified channels. Nigerians were also warned against sending money or releasing sensitive information to fraudsters masquerading as PTI officials online.

The Institute appealed to media organizations, stakeholders, and the general public to assist in creating awareness about the fraudulent activities in order to protect innocent persons from becoming victims of cybercrime and online impersonation.

PTI further noted that cyber-enabled identity theft and social media fraud have become increasing threats in the digital era, making public vigilance and prompt verification of information extremely important.

While expressing regret over any inconvenience or embarrassment caused by the activities of the impostors, the management reassured stakeholders of its determination to safeguard the reputation of the institution and protect members of the public from fraudulent exploitation.

For inquiries, verification, and authentic information concerning PTI, the public has been advised to contact the Public Affairs Department of the Institute through its official communication channels.

Further information is available through the PTI Official Website and the Institute’s verified communication platforms.
