GENERAL OLOYE ADVISES ALEX EYENGHO, OTHER ITSEKIRI LEADERS TO TREAD CAREFULLY
By Wilson Macaulay
General Oloye has called on Mr. Alex Eyengho and other prominent Itsekiri leaders toWil exercise restraint, caution, and responsibility in their public statements concerning the ongoing discussions surrounding the Warri Federal Constituency delineation and other sensitive issues affecting the Niger Delta region. According to him, leaders across all ethnic nationalities have a duty to promote peace, understanding, and constructive engagement rather than rhetoric capable of heightening tensions.
He noted that the Niger Delta has made remarkable progress in maintaining peace and stability after years of conflict and unrest, emphasizing that no individual or group should take actions that could undermine the sacrifices made by stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, and the Federal Government in sustaining harmony across the region. He stressed that peace remains the foundation upon which development and economic prosperity can thrive.
General Oloye further advised that grievances arising from political, electoral, or boundary-related matters should be pursued through lawful and constitutional channels. He maintained that Nigeria's democratic institutions, including the courts and relevant government agencies, exist to address disputes and ensure justice for all parties. Resorting to inflammatory statements, accusations, or threats, he warned, could create unnecessary distrust among neighboring communities that have coexisted for generations.
He also appealed to leaders of all ethnic nationalities in Delta State—including Itsekiri, Ijaw, Urhobo, Isoko, and others—to place the collective interest of the region above sectional considerations. According to him, the Niger Delta's strategic importance to the Nigerian economy demands continuous collaboration, dialogue, and mutual respect among all stakeholders, irrespective of ethnic or political affiliations.
General Oloye therefore urged Mr. Alex Eyengho and other Itsekiri leaders to tread carefully in their public engagements and to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. He reaffirmed his commitment to the unity, peace, and sustainable development of the Niger Delta and called on all parties to avoid actions capable of heating up the polity or threatening the prevailing atmosphere of peace in the region.
