Petroleum Training Institute Warns Public Against Fraudsters Impersonating Samuel Onoji Online

The Management of the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun, has issued a strong warning to Nigerians and the general public over the activities of fraudsters impersonating the Principal and Chief Executive of the Institute, Samuel Onoji, on various social media platforms.

In a public statement released on May 24, 2026, the Institute disclosed that cybercriminals have created fake Facebook, Instagram, X formerly known as Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts using the name, official photographs, and designation of Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji in an attempt to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

The management described the development as criminal and disturbing, emphasizing that the fraudulent social media accounts are not connected in any way to the office of the Principal/Chief Executive or the official communication platforms of PTI.

According to the statement, the fraudsters allegedly use the fake accounts to solicit money from unsuspecting victims under the false pretense of facilitating admissions, employment opportunities, contract awards, and other unofficial transactions purportedly linked to the Institute. The impostors were also accused of requesting sensitive personal and financial information from students, contractors, staff members, and members of the public.

PTI categorically clarified that Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji does not operate any personal Facebook account for official Institute business and has not authorized any individual, group, or agent to represent him through unofficial social media platforms. The management further stressed that the PTI boss does not request money, gifts, banking details, or confidential information from anyone through social media channels.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and institutional integrity, the management urged the public to rely strictly on PTI’s verified communication channels for authentic information concerning the activities and operations of the Institute. These include the official PTI website, approved social media handles, and official institutional email addresses.

The Institute advised members of the public to disregard and report any suspicious messages, friend requests, or online posts from accounts claiming to represent Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji outside the verified platforms of the institution. Nigerians were also warned not to send money or disclose personal information to individuals posing as representatives of PTI online.

PTI further appealed to media organizations, stakeholders, contractors, students, and members of the public to assist in amplifying the warning in order to prevent more innocent persons from becoming victims of cyber-enabled fraud and identity theft.

The management noted that the growing trend of online impersonation and cybercrime has become a serious concern in the digital era, making public vigilance and prompt verification of information increasingly important.

While expressing regret over any embarrassment or inconvenience caused by the activities of the fraudsters, the Institute reassured stakeholders of its determination to protect the reputation of PTI and safeguard members of the public from criminal exploitation.

For inquiries, clarification, and verification of information relating to PTI, the public has been advised to contact the Institute’s Public Affairs Department through its official communication channels.

Further information is available through the PTI Official Website and the Institute’s verified communication platforms.
