The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has formally inducted 2,101 students into its Full-Time and School of Industrial and Continuing Education (SICE) programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session, with a strong emphasis on discipline, academic excellence, and industry relevance.

The well-attended matriculation ceremony, held at the Institute’s Conference Centre on Friday, April 17, 2026, brought together academic staff, parents, guardians, and stakeholders from across the education and energy sectors to witness the official admission of the new students into the Institute’s academic community.

In his matriculation address, the Principal and Chief Executive of PTI, Engr. Dr. Samuel E. Onoji, welcomed the fresh students and described their admission as the beginning of a transformative journey into the technical and professional world of oil and gas. He urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to academic excellence throughout their stay in the Institute.

The address was delivered on his behalf by the Director of Research and Development, Dr. Mrs. Tina Isichei, who congratulated the students and their families for achieving the milestone. She stressed that PTI remains committed not only to academic excellence but also to producing graduates who are industry-relevant, innovative, and ethically sound.

The Institute emphasized the importance of discipline as a core value, warning the new students against all forms of misconduct, including cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, bullying, sexual misconduct, and other anti-social behaviours. Management reiterated that PTI operates a strict zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline, and violations would attract severe sanctions.

Students were further charged to embrace innovation and adaptability in line with the evolving global energy landscape. They were encouraged to align their studies with emerging trends such as renewable energy systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, data analytics, and digital technologies that are reshaping the oil and gas industry.

The Institute also highlighted its strategic partnerships with industry players such as Laser Engineering, Ioda Energy, and Indora Petrochemicals, noting that these collaborations are designed to enhance practical training and ensure that graduates are fully prepared for industry demands.

Attention was also drawn to the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which PTI described as a major intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at expanding access to tertiary education. Eligible students were encouraged to take advantage of the interest-free loan scheme.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the ceremony, some of the matriculating students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to study at PTI and pledged to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their academic goals. They also promised to make the Institute proud through hard work and integrity.

The ceremony climaxed with the administration of the matriculation oath to the 2,101 students, formally inducting them into the PTI academic community as they begin their academic journey, with a renewed charge to uphold discipline and remain industry-relevant in the competitive global energy sector.
