PTI Matriculates 2,101, Tasks Them on Academic Journey to the Oil and Gas World

The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has formally matriculated a total of 2,101 students into its Full-Time and School of Industrial and Continuing Education (SICE) programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session, tasking them to remain focused as they begin their academic journey into the oil and gas industry.

The colourful matriculation ceremony, held at the Institute’s Conference Centre on Friday, April 17, 2026, attracted academic staff, parents, guardians, and stakeholders from the education and energy sectors, all gathered to witness the official induction of the new intakes into the Institute’s academic community.

Delivering the matriculation address, the Principal and Chief Executive of PTI, Engr. Dr. Samuel E. Onoji, welcomed the students and described their admission as the beginning of a transformative journey into the technical and professional world of oil and gas. He urged them to take their studies seriously, remain disciplined, and be focused on achieving academic excellence.

The address was presented on his behalf by the Director of Research and Development, Dr. Mrs. Tina Isichei, who congratulated the students and their families for the milestone achievement. She emphasized that PTI remains committed to producing skilled manpower that is not only academically sound but also morally upright and industry-ready.

The Institute tasked the new students to embrace diligence, resilience, and innovation as they embark on their academic journey. They were reminded that the oil and gas sector is highly competitive and requires technical competence, adaptability, and continuous learning to succeed.

Management further charged the students to shun all forms of social vices, including cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, bullying, sexual misconduct, and other anti-social behaviours. It warned that the Institute operates a zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline, and any violation of its regulations would attract strict disciplinary action.

Students were also encouraged to align themselves with emerging trends in the global energy landscape, including renewable energy technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, data analytics, and digital transformation in the oil and gas industry. They were advised to take advantage of opportunities for additional certifications to enhance their employability.

The Institute highlighted its strategic collaborations with industry players such as Laser Engineering, Ioda Energy, and Indora Petrochemicals, noting that such partnerships are designed to provide students with practical exposure and real-world experience in the energy sector.

PTI also drew attention to the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a key initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at expanding access to higher education. Eligible students were urged to apply through the appropriate institutional channels.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the ceremony, some of the matriculating students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to study at PTI and pledged to remain committed to their academic goals. They promised to stay focused, disciplined, and determined to succeed in their chosen fields.

The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the matriculation oath to the 2,101 students, officially inducting them into the PTI academic community as they commence their journey into the oil and gas world, with a charge to excel and uphold the values of the Institute.
