The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has formally matriculated 2,101 students into its Full-Time and School of Industrial and Continuing Education (SICE) programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session, reaffirming its strategic role in Nigeria’s technical manpower development and capacity building for the oil and gas industry.
The matriculation ceremony, held at the Institute’s Conference Centre on Friday, April 17, 2026, was attended by academic staff, parents, guardians, and stakeholders from the education and energy sectors, all gathered to witness the official induction of the new students into one of Nigeria’s foremost petroleum training institutions.
Delivering the matriculation address, the Principal and Chief Executive of PTI, Engr. Dr. Samuel E. Onoji, welcomed the fresh students and described their admission as a significant step into a structured pathway of technical training and professional development. He urged them to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to academic excellence as they pursue their chosen careers in the energy sector.
The address was delivered on his behalf by the Director of Research and Development, Dr. Mrs. Tina Isichei, who congratulated the students and their families for attaining the milestone. She emphasized that PTI’s mandate goes beyond classroom instruction, noting that the Institute is deeply committed to producing skilled, competent, and industry-ready manpower for Nigeria’s petroleum and allied sectors.
The Institute reiterated its commitment to discipline and standards, warning students against all forms of misconduct, including cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, bullying, sexual misconduct, and other anti-social behaviours. Management stressed that adherence to institutional rules remains compulsory, with strict penalties for any breach.
Students were further charged to embrace innovation and adaptability in response to the rapidly changing global energy landscape. They were encouraged to position themselves in emerging fields such as renewable energy technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, data analytics, and digital transformation, which are increasingly shaping the future of the oil and gas industry.
PTI also highlighted its ongoing collaborations with key industry partners, including Laser Engineering, Ioda Energy, and Indora Petrochemicals, noting that such partnerships are designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical industry experience, thereby strengthening graduate employability.
Attention was also drawn to the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), described as a major intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving access to higher education. Eligible students were advised to take advantage of the interest-free loan scheme through the appropriate channels.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the ceremony, some of the matriculating students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to study at PTI and pledged to remain focused on their academic pursuits. They also promised to uphold discipline, avoid distractions, and make the Institute proud through hard work and commitment.
The ceremony climaxed with the administration of the matriculation oath to the 2,101 students, officially inducting them into the PTI academic community as they begin their academic journey, with a renewed charge from the Institute to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s technical manpower development and the global energy sector.
