The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has urged newly admitted students to uphold hard work, integrity, and discipline as 2,101 freshers were formally inducted into the Institute’s Full-Time and School of Industrial and Continuing Education (SICE) programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The well-attended matriculation ceremony, held at the Institute’s Conference Centre on Friday, April 17, 2026, brought together academic staff, parents, guardians, and stakeholders in the education sector to witness the official admission of the new students into one of Nigeria’s foremost technical institutions.

In his matriculation address, the Principal and Chief Executive of PTI, Engr. Dr. Samuel E. Onoji, welcomed the students and described their admission as the beginning of a life-defining journey. He urged them to remain committed to excellence, stressing that success in PTI and the wider energy industry requires discipline, perseverance, and integrity.

The address was delivered on his behalf by the Director of Research and Development, Dr. Mrs. Tina Isichei, who congratulated the new students and their families for reaching this milestone. She emphasized that PTI remains committed to producing not only academically sound graduates but also individuals of strong moral character capable of thriving in the global energy sector.

The Institute leadership cautioned the students against all forms of academic and social misconduct, warning that examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, bullying, sexual misconduct, and other vices would not be tolerated under any circumstance. Management reiterated that the Institute’s disciplinary framework is strict and aimed at maintaining its standard of excellence.

Students were encouraged to embrace hard work and innovation, especially as the energy industry continues to evolve with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, data analytics, renewable energy systems, and digital transformation tools. They were advised to position themselves as future leaders capable of driving innovation in the petroleum and allied sectors.

The Institute also highlighted its ongoing collaborations with industry partners such as Laser Engineering, Ioda Energy, and Indora Petrochemicals, noting that such partnerships are designed to expose students to practical experience and enhance their employability upon graduation.

Attention was also drawn to the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which PTI described as a key intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda to support students’ access to quality education. Eligible students were urged to take advantage of the interest-free loan scheme.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the ceremony, some of the newly admitted students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to study at PTI. They pledged to remain focused, uphold integrity, and avoid distractions that could hinder their academic progress.

The ceremony climaxed with the administration of the matriculation oath to the 2,101 students, formally inducting them into the PTI academic community as they begin their journey toward becoming skilled professionals and responsible leaders in the global energy industry.
