President Tinubu’s Bayelsa Visit: PANDEF Celebrates Diri’s Bold Infrastructure Milestones

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has applauded the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, for what it described as bold and transformative infrastructure milestones, as the state prepares to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a historic working visit scheduled for April 10, 2026.

In a press statement signed by its National Chairman, Godknows Boladei Igali, PANDEF said the projects lined up for commissioning reflect a strategic vision anchored on sustainable development, economic growth, and regional integration.

The regional body highlighted key projects billed for inauguration to include the Bayelsa Independent Power Project, the New Yenagoa City Road 1 linking the Airport Road, and the landmark 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge. According to PANDEF, these initiatives are set to redefine the socio-economic trajectory of Bayelsa State and significantly improve the quality of life for its residents.

Ambassador Igali described the Independent Power Project as a major leap toward energy sufficiency, noting that the initiative leverages Bayelsa’s vast natural gas reserves to generate reliable electricity. He stressed that access to stable power supply would catalyze industrial development, stimulate small and medium enterprises, and attract new investments into the state.

“This is a visionary step that positions Bayelsa as a model for resource-driven development and energy independence,” Igali stated, adding that the project demonstrates Governor Diri’s commitment to innovative governance.

On the Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, PANDEF noted that the project marks a historic breakthrough in connecting the riverine Southern Ijaw communities to the mainland. The forum emphasized that the bridge and its adjoining road network would enhance mobility, facilitate trade, and integrate previously isolated communities into the broader economic framework of the state and the nation.

Describing the projects as “bold infrastructure milestones,” PANDEF said their long-term impact would be felt across generations, transforming Bayelsa into a hub of economic activities within the Niger Delta region. The forum further noted that such investments underscore the importance of infrastructure as a catalyst for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

PANDEF also observed that President Tinubu’s visit signifies strong federal acknowledgment of Bayelsa’s growing importance in Nigeria’s energy and infrastructure landscape. Analysts believe the commissioning of these projects will further deepen collaboration between the Federal Government and Bayelsa State, particularly in harnessing energy resources and expanding critical infrastructure.

Stakeholders across the Niger Delta have welcomed PANDEF’s commendation, interpreting it as a clear endorsement of Governor Diri’s leadership and his administration’s focus on delivering impactful projects despite economic constraints.

In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Igali expressed confidence that the presidential visit would not only mark the unveiling of critical infrastructure but also herald a new phase of accelerated development for Bayelsa State. He extended goodwill to both Governor Diri and President Tinubu, wishing them a successful and memorable commissioning ceremony.

As anticipation builds across the state, expectations remain high that the visit will further elevate Bayelsa’s profile on the national stage and consolidate its role in Nigeria’s drive toward sustainable energy, improved connectivity, and economic transformation.
