PANDEF Hails Diri’s Legacy Projects Ahead of Tinubu’s Historic Bayelsa Visit

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has showered glowing commendations on Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, describing his ongoing infrastructure drive as visionary and transformational, ahead of the historic working visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state scheduled for April 10, 2026.
The endorsement was contained in a press release signed by PANDEF National Chairman, Godknows Boladei Igali, in response to an invitation extended to the regional body to witness the commissioning of key legacy projects in Bayelsa State.
Projects slated for inauguration during the presidential visit include the Bayelsa Independent Power Project, the New Yenagoa City Road 1 linking the Airport Road, and the strategically significant 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge. These projects are widely regarded by stakeholders as game changers capable of redefining the socio-economic landscape of the state.
Ambassador Igali, in his message, described the forthcoming commissioning ceremony as a defining moment not only for Bayelsa State but for the entire Niger Delta region. He noted that the Independent Power Project represents a bold step towards energy independence, leveraging the state’s abundant natural gas resources to generate sustainable electricity.
According to him, the initiative reflects a deliberate policy thrust aimed at unlocking industrial growth, boosting small and medium-scale enterprises, and improving the overall living standards of the people.
“Positioning Bayelsa State to generate its own electricity from its vast gas reserves is both visionary and profound,” Igali stated, adding that such a milestone places the state on a progressive trajectory of economic self-reliance and sustainable development.
The PANDEF Chairman also paid special tribute to Governor Diri for the successful completion of the Angiama–Oporoma Bridge and its adjoining road network, which now links the previously isolated Southern Ijaw axis to the rest of the state and the nation at large. He emphasized that the project fulfills a long-standing aspiration of the people in one of the highest oil-producing areas in the region, thereby opening new corridors for commerce, mobility, and regional integration.
Describing the projects as “legacy interventions,” PANDEF noted that their impact would resonate for generations, fundamentally altering the development narrative of Bayelsa State. The forum stressed that such infrastructure not only addresses immediate socio-economic challenges but also lays a durable foundation for long-term prosperity.
President Tinubu’s scheduled visit, analysts say, underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of Bayelsa’s growing strategic importance within Nigeria’s energy and infrastructure matrix. The commissioning of these projects is also expected to further strengthen federal-state collaboration, particularly in the areas of power generation, regional connectivity, and resource optimization.
Stakeholders across the Niger Delta have interpreted PANDEF’s commendation as a strong vote of confidence in Governor Diri’s leadership style, which has been marked by steady investment in critical infrastructure despite prevailing fiscal constraints.
In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Igali extended warm wishes to both Governor Diri and President Tinubu for a successful commissioning ceremony, expressing optimism that the visit would herald a new chapter of accelerated growth and renewed hope for the people of Bayelsa State.
As anticipation builds ahead of the April 10 event, expectations remain high that the commissioning of these landmark projects will not only consolidate Bayelsa’s development strides but also reinforce its position as a pivotal hub in Nigeria’s quest for sustainable energy and infrastructural advancement.
