Comrade Nelson Obukowho Agbajor has been re-elected as Chairman of the Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), following a peaceful and well-coordinated election conducted on April 25, 2026, in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.
The election, which took place at the NUJ Sapele Chapel Secretariat, was successfully supervised by the Delta State Council of the NUJ under the leadership of the State Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, alongside the Acting State Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior. The process was widely praised for its transparency, orderliness, and strict adherence to union guidelines.
In what stakeholders described as a resounding endorsement of the incumbent leadership, all seven members of the chapel’s executive council were returned unopposed. Members noted that the unanimous outcome reflected the executives’ commitment to service, dedication to members’ welfare, and consistent engagement in chapel activities.
The re-elected executive team is led by Comrade Nelson Agbajor as Chairman, with Stephanie Ikanone Odiete as Vice Chairman and Rita Daniel as Secretary. Others include Esada Uyono as Treasurer, Dorothy Egwe as Assistant Secretary, Clarkson Ogo as Financial Secretary, and Comrade Peace Caleb as Auditor.
In his acceptance speech, Agbajor expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty for the peaceful conduct of the election and appreciated members for the confidence reposed in his leadership. He described the unanimous re-election as a clear indication of members’ satisfaction with the administration’s performance during its first tenure.
“This renewed mandate challenges us to do more. We are committed to delivering improved service, strengthening unity, and advancing the welfare of our members,” he stated.
Agbajor further pledged to run an inclusive administration and called for sustained cooperation and understanding among members to move the chapel to greater heights.
Administering the oath of office, the Delta State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, congratulated the newly elected executives and charged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, promote inclusiveness, and remain actively engaged in union affairs. He also urged members to participate fully in the ongoing statewide revalidation exercise, stressing its importance to the growth and institutional strengthening of the union.
Oyowe commended the leadership qualities of Agbajor and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver on its mandate, wishing them a successful tenure.
Comrade Agbajor’s leadership journey within the NUJ has been marked by steady progression and notable contributions. He previously served as Assistant Secretary of the chapel, where he distinguished himself through diligence and efficiency, before being elected Secretary based on his performance and track record.
His rise continued with his election as Chairman, during which he further demonstrated capacity and vision. He also served as a member of the Caretaker Committee of the Delta State NUJ Council in Asaba under the administration of Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, and later as Secretary of the Delta State NUJ Elections/Credentials Committee during the 2023 NUJ elections. Additionally, he has been an active participant in several state-level committees.
Academically, Agbajor is well grounded. He holds a National Diploma in Mass Communication from Auchi Polytechnic, a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration, and a Master’s degree (M.A.) in Mass Communication from the University of Benin.
The smooth conduct of the election and the seamless return of the executive council have been widely attributed to the effective oversight of the Delta State NUJ leadership, reinforcing confidence in the union’s democratic processes and internal cohesion.
