Agbajor Secures Second Term as NUJ Sapele Chapel Elects New Exco

Comrade Nelson Obukowho Agbajor has secured a second term as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, following a peaceful and well-coordinated election held on April 25, 2026, in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.
The election, conducted at the NUJ Sapele Chapel Secretariat, was supervised by officials of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, led by the State Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, alongside the Acting State Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior, ensuring transparency and adherence to union guidelines.
In what observers and members described as a resounding endorsement of the outgoing leadership, all seven members of the chapel’s executive council were returned unopposed. The unanimous outcome has been widely interpreted as a strong vote of confidence in the executives’ performance, particularly in areas of welfare, unity, and active engagement in chapel affairs.
The newly elected executive team is led by Comrade Nelson Agbajor as Chairman, with Stephanie Ikanone Odiete as Vice Chairman and Rita Daniel as Secretary. Other members include Esada Uyono as Treasurer, Dorothy Egwe as Assistant Secretary, Clarkson Ogo as Financial Secretary, and Comrade Peace Caleb as Auditor.
Speaking shortly after taking the oath of office, Comrade Agbajor expressed deep appreciation to God Almighty for the peaceful conduct of the election and the unity demonstrated by members. He thanked the chapel for reposing confidence in his leadership and that of his team.
According to him, the unopposed re-election of the entire executive reflects members’ satisfaction with their stewardship during the first tenure. He assured that the new administration would consolidate on past achievements while introducing improved strategies for enhanced service delivery.
Agbajor further pledged to run an inclusive administration that accommodates the views and contributions of all members, while calling for sustained cooperation and understanding to move the chapel to greater heights.
Administering the oath of office, the Delta State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, congratulated the re-elected executives and charged them to uphold the ethics of the journalism profession. He emphasized the need for inclusiveness, professionalism, and consistent participation in chapel activities.
Oyowe also urged members to take seriously the ongoing statewide revalidation exercise, noting that it is critical to strengthening the union’s structure and credibility. He commended the leadership of Comrade Agbajor and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver a successful tenure.
Comrade Agbajor’s journey within the NUJ has been marked by steady progression and impactful service. He previously served as Assistant Secretary of the chapel, a role in which he distinguished himself through diligence and efficiency, paving the way for his election as Secretary and subsequently Chairman.
During his tenure as Chairman, he was appointed a member of the Caretaker Committee of the Delta State Council of the NUJ in Asaba under the leadership of Comrade Michael Ikeogwu. His contributions to the union also earned him the position of Secretary of the Delta State NUJ Elections/Credentials Committee during the 2023 NUJ elections, in addition to serving on several key committees at the state level.
Academically, Agbajor is well grounded. He holds a National Diploma in Mass Communication from Auchi Polytechnic, a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration, and a Master’s degree (M.A.) in Mass Communication
from the University of Benin. His blend of academic training and practical experience has continued to shape his leadership approach within the NU
